I have a closed path which I applied a brush stroke to. Now I need to change where the brush begins (and ends) to a different anchor point. How do you do that?

On the Brushes Pallet, at the bottom there is an icon that looks like a brush with 2 slider controls (Options of Selected Object) select it, and then you can flip the direction.

Yes, I know about that thanks, I'm trying to move the start point to a different anchor point, not flip the direction of the stroke. The path was created by combining several shapes with the pathfinder, not drawn with a brush or pen, so I cannot re-draw the shape 'starting' from somewhere else... My current workaround is having to break the path where I want it to start, but this seems problematic for some brushes.

I missed the part about the CLOSES path.

If the path needs to be closed, I think your workaround of using the scissors tool to cut the closed path is about your best option. You can rejoin the anchors together afterwards to make the path closed again and the newly rejoined anchor will act as the start.

I tried it with about a dozen brushes from Illustrator and my own and had no issues. If you have an example I would love to see it.
