Hey,

I was trying to morph a text into a shape for a few days now, and i still have the same problem.
I read this http://www.illustratortechniques.com/forum/showthread.php?t=942&highlight=text+shape thread, as it is more or less the effect that i want to get.

so i will tell you what is the problem:
whenever i write the text, make the shape with the pen tool and use the cmd+alt+c shortcut (same if i go for the "make with top object" thing using my mouse) i get this message:

"this requires a selection of multiple objects. The top object must be a single path or mesh, or a symbol containing a single path or mesh."
i suppose that is a silly question but i am really lost in illustrator tho i used a lot photoshop... so what is wrong ?

i give you here a screenshot so you can check my shape..

All you should have to do is place the path you want to use as your envelope for the distort in front (on top) of the text. Open your layers Palette View>Layers and drag the shape above the text object. You can also select the shape and select Object>Arrange>Bring To Front.

It should work now.

awwwww.... yeah.... i thought it was sth with the layers, dunno why i didnt check that; it was because the two objects were on one layer;)

thanks a lot! :)

The two objects can be on one layer, the envelop just has to be in front of any objects having distort applied.

But if it works for you, that's fine too.

i meant that it didnt work because it was all on one layer;) now i have put it on two separate ones and it works well :)

that's the result: http://a710.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/57/l_34a74a680cf0fc08a348a29682a6b0f5.jpg
