I'm using Illustrator 10. I'm trying to create a black-to-white gradient with a halftone effect, but when I apply the effect the dots are white and the background is black. I need it to be black dots on a white background. Is there any way to do this?

EDIT: Since I'm already posting - can you apply a halftone effect to an outer glow to create a dotted shadow effect?

Lower the "black" value.

The dots are still black dots on a white background, it is just that the black dots have gotten so big they are overlapping, resulting in the appearance of white dots on black background. Lowering the black value to about 75% will fix it.

#2, yes, but the effect is applies to everything (simple enough, duplicate your shape on to without effect. However, it looks better if you Object>Expand the object, and apply to the outer glow seperately, or if the shape is simple, then make your own outer glow and apply the halftone effect.

No, they really are white dots on a black background. (The white parts are circles; the black parts where the white dots are overlapping are squares.) When I lower the black value the white dots become larger and cover more of the black rather than the black parts retracting. Have I done something so cause the colors to display reversed?
