Hey there,

I'm trying to make a sun in Illustrator like this. I can draw the sun, but am not sure how to make the rays blur out like that and fade into the blue sky...

Any help would be great!

Thanks :)

Hi Lux,

Try the flare tool. Its the last tool in the pop up under the rectangle tool. I'd put it on its own layer. It's unpredictable (at least to me), and will take some experimenting. Also memory intensive. Good luck!

Another option is to...

1. Use the Star Tool to draw out the sun. (Look up the help file how to use the star tool and it's options.)
2. Us the Direct Selection Tool to adjust the length of the individual stars/rays.
3. Fill it white.
4. Copy the shape, and create a transparency mask.
5. Assign a radial gradient to the transparency shape (black to white) and use the gradient tool to adjust the gradient's length.
6. Apply a Feather FX to the original shape (not to the transparency shape).
