OK gang, anyone have any suggestions on the best book to buy covering the use of Photoshop and Illustrator together? Specifically, I'm looking for content using these two Adobe tools to convert photographs, or just parts of photographs to "art". Or perhaps Photoshop and Painter IX would be a better combination? Your thoughts?
I'm using CS2.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions! :)

Integrating Photoshop and Illustrator to Create Professional Imagery (http://www.peachpit.com/articles/article.asp?p=351420&seqNum=1)
Check the link to see if it might be something you can use. There aren't many books like the one you need and you know what people do when that happens... they write one themselves. :)
You might want to look around Peach Pit for other books while you're there... For example the "related book" feature on the same page is one I'm sure Mr Kelby would appreciate if you bought. ;)

Thanks for the lead - I'm going to take a closer look at that book. As for the related book - I almost bought it yesterday while at the bookstore. When I stopped by a different bookstore closer to home later in the day - they didn't have it. It is, however, a book I will definitely be adding to my collection. :)

Hi, this may not seem exactly what you are after but Steve's books are full of tips on how to work with PhotoShop & Illustrator.

The best Painter book is by far, the Painter WOW series.
Best of luck!

Back a few years ago, adobe press put out a book that showed how to combine Photoshop and Illustrator but it was focused on using Illustrator 8 and earlier and Photoshop 5.5 and earlier. I never saw a revised book that focused on later versions of either software. I also don't know if the book I am referring to is out of print or still available. I can't give you the exact title because I have the book squirrled away in a box in storage and would not be able to find it very easily. But today I stopped in the local bookstore for where I live and I found a book published by Focal Press entitled "Painter IX for Photographers" by Martin Addison. I was extremely impressed at the depth this author goes into the use of brushes and with the many many examples. I really think this is the book for you if you wish to turn photographs into paintings or to try and emulate other artistic media.

Try this one from IDG Books:
Photoshop and Illustrator Synergy Secrets by Jennifer Alspach
ISBN 0-7645-3134-4
The book has a cross-platfrom CD-ROM with it. It was put out in 1998, so you might want to see if there's been an update. Even if not, pick up a used copy at Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/offer-listing/0764531344/ref=dp_olp_2//103-8772485-0113404?condition=all
You'll still be able to use the tips/ideas, even if the exact command sequence is no longer the same.

Thanks for the replies - I picked up Painter IX for Photographers today and am ordering Painter IX WOW from Amazon.
I'll check out Photoshop and Illustrator Synergy Secrets - thanks for the info.
The Dream Team book is still on my list - maybe I'll pick it up at Photoshop World next week if it's there. :)

Wrangler95:
Since you're going to Photoshop World next week, make sure you catch two sessions on using Photoshop with Illustrator. The first is taught by Bert Monroy, and the second is taught by Dave Cross. They have entirely different styles, and come at using them together in an entirely different way, but they're both great sessions.
And yes, I'm pretty sure they'll have the Dreamteam book there as well. If you buy a copy, I'd be delighted to sign it for you, so look me up. :)
Have safe travels,

C'mon, is "The Scott Kelby" really considered to be a junior member?
I'd have expected "Founding Father" or "General GURU" under his name...
HA HA! :p

Scott, will the book be available at your booth? One stop shopping you know! :)
Otherwise, do you know where at the show it will be sold? I'm there for one day only (Thursday).

I was going through my books and I found a couple that might interest you.The title of the one in front of me is "Adobe Photosop 6.0 and Illustrator 9.0 - Advanced - Classroom in a Book. I'm not sure if it taches just advanced techniques for each program separately, or if each of the lessons show how each will work with each other. I haven't seen any books like this since this one that I mention in this post.
