Hello All,

I am very new to Adobe Illustrator. I've owned a copy of it and never used it.

Now I need to create an 17x11 brochure and cannot afford to pay for the design of it so I have to try to do it my self.

I am stuck right at the beginning.

I want to create an orange background that I can then build on, create more layers, add text, pictures etc.

I learned how to create layers, add text can even add pictures BUT I cannot figure out how to make my first layer a solid color.

Can anyone help me, please??

You have to draw a ractangle the size of the brochure (plus bleed) and fill it with the specified color.

In theory, the "background" in Illustrator is the paper/material color you are printing on. If the stock you are printing on is Orange, then you do not have to identify any background. If you ar printing on white, then you must fill the color using any standard shape.
