Hi there, new to this forum and delving back into illustrator after spending too much time working around issues in Photoshop :P

I would look this up myself, but I don't have the vocabulary. I am having 2 related issues with lines segments. I have a complex shape that I am tracing with straight line segments.

Firstly, I can't figure out how to join these so that when I change the line weight i don't have to make some segments longer in order to have correct looking corners. Group and join both seem not to work.

see attached picture for a clearer explanation

I also have a similar problem where segment 1 is a circle, not a line and i would like them to meet and form a cusp of sorts. i dont know if that requires different tools or not.

Thanks for any advice!

Deselect the 2 paths
Get the Direct Selection tool [A]
Select the end anchor points you want to join
Hold down Command-Option-Shift and type J.
That will average and join the paths in one step. If the corner doesn't look right, go to the Stroke panel and click on miter, and adjust the miter limit if necessary.
Hope this helps.

And next time you can use the Pen Tool as opposed to drawing individual line segments.
