Text box to Plain Old Square

I was just messing with a project where I had made a rectangle into a text box and later decided I wanted a solid rectangle again. Now I know it's simple enough to draw a same sized rectangle and put it in the correct place but I couldn't find a way to just convert it and that made me wonder if such a thing exists in illustrator.

The easiest way I found to do it is:

1. open arrow tool (a)
2. alt-select the text box - make sure you're just selecting the path, not any of the text inside it.
3. copy
4. select and delete the whole text box entity
5. paste in front, add color

(or you could just draw a new rectangle and delete the old one; this is mostly worth bothering with if you have a complicated shape._
