That are the arrow keys on your keyboard.

Everytime you hit an arrow key a selected object is moved by the amount specified under Preferences > Keyboard Increment.

if you hold down the ALT key while moving an object Illustrator generates a copy. If you use the LEFT and RIGHT cursor keys instead of your mouse to move the copy you are able to move the object exactly back to it's original position. This great tip also works with the UP and DOWN arrow keys.

Great Tip!

Also consider:

Select the object
Douple Click on the select tool (Or, if you have the slection tool selected, hit enter)
(Make sure all values are 0)
Click on copy (Alt+C)

I know you said no copy and paste, but just in case...
Illustrator offers "Paste in Front" and "Paste In Back" options.
So a copy(Ctrl-C), Paste in front (Ctrl+F) works great.

Hi, I would like to know if it's possible how to clone an object with Illustrator but with a simple condition: that if I clone an object "A" into "AA" and after a while I want to modify "A" (transform it, for example), "AA" changes also.

Corel Draw has this function "Clone", but I can't find it in Illustrator, I'm quite new.

Thanks.

You probably want to use Symbols here. When you create a symbol (Drag your object to the Symbol Panel), you can then make copies of it in your document. You can them makes changes to the Symbol (Edit Symbol), and all instances will be changed
