Antialiasing on Export

I'm fairly new to CS3 and I'm starting to use it for inking cartoons over scanned pencilwork. The problem I'm having is that when I export the final work to bitmap format, a lot of the lines look quite jagged and nasty. I've been having to use a soften filter in Paint shop pro afterwards to rectify it (although this is far from ideal). It seems to me that illustrator is not antialiasing on export, even though that box is clearly ticked when I perform the export.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I had to convert to jpg to upload it, but the image is exactly like that, jagged and not very good looking at all.
