I just got Illustrator CS3 and was wondering if anyone knows a way to get a gradient on a stroke? I've never seen a decent way to do it with older versions of Illy. It would be a nice effect to use.

Thanks!

This is not really a gradient on a stroke in the true sense of the term but this is a neat thing I learned over at Veerle's site (one of her last tutorials) which might do what you need.

Draw out a brush stroke and apply a thickish stroke to it. Object>Expand Appearance. View in Outline Mode and Direct Select the inner "path" or stroke and delete it. Go back to view preview and you can now easily add nice (editable) gradients to the new object. You can actually add a stroke to this object but if thin enough it might serve as a gradient "stroked line". Though Scott's little tutorial is a must see on this.
