Hi i have a problem with a raised effect in illustrator
i make a shape which is filled white, i then offset the path by 4 and fill the larger shape with a 35% of black, then using the blend tool (smooth colour selected) i click on both shapes causing the shape to have a raised apperance

Now the problem:

the blend follows some of the curves fine but on a few the blend sort of stretches across
Its hard to explain if you vlook at the pic below you'll get a better idea

This tends to happen when offsetting paths because offsetting adds points to the shape. Blends work better when the two shapes have the same number of points. If you zoom in you may be able to select a point on inside shape in the bad area and drag the point over to line up better with a point on the outside shape. This will cause the bad area to change. drag the point around until it looks better. you may also have to delete the extra points in bad area so the shapes have an equal number points and then drag the inside points around to adjust the blend. You will see how the blends sort of fold over each other if two points cross each other rather than line up.

I'm glad you could figure it out. It's kind of a complicated thing so I tried to explain it with as few words as possible. Sounds like you got it.
