Hey everyone, I'm trying to figure out how to get a pattern to have a perspective matching the object it fills. For example I've made a simple brick pattern and filled a rectangle with it, so it looks like a brick wall. If I change the perspective of the rectangle the pattern remains the same so it just looks silly.

I have tried numerous methods such as object > transform > shear, the obvious free transform tool with perspective transform, I also tried filter > 3D > revolve out of desperation and that didn't work either. I'm starting to believe it's not possible. Can anyone out there save the day?

I would do just as you describe. Effect>3D>Rotate, and add perspective.

This works for me, so I am wondering what your exact steps are...

Oh dear! I was doing Effect > 3D > Revolve, I'm such a noob! Thank you so much that's exactly what I needed, when I'll show you the site when it's done, thanks :o)

You could just check the preference for "Transform Pattern Tiles," fill your rectangle, then add the perspective to the rectangle. The pattern will transform too.

Hey Scott,

How do you "add perspective"? I feel like I am missing something....

Well I was wrong :)

The free transform tool will transform patterns pretty freely if the preference is checked. However, it doesn't appear to work with perspective distorting. I was mistaken when I thought it did.

so.. nevermind :)

It does work if you expand the fill first.
