Cutting the outline

as you can tell from this post i'm not too good on illustrator...

I have a shape which is filled of a picture and i want to cut a shape into the picture doing away with the offcut.

I have tried doing it via a mask but it still leave the anchor points of the original outline.

what am i doing wrong orhow can i do it?

You aren't doing anything wrong. That is simply ho Illustrator works. There is no way in current version of Illustrator to actually "crop" a placed raster image.

Well you can simply use the mask and realize the extra anchors are there, but won't print. Or you can actually crop the raster images in a raster editing application like Photoshop, then place the cropped version into Illustrator.
