I'm Alpine, 22, from Dallas, TX... I've been doing design off and on since I was thirteen but always in Fireworks. I'm new to Illustrator but think I am picking it up relatively fast, the experience in FW seems to be helping out. I def like the Adobe products better than the old Macromedia stuff (ya, I know they're all adobe).
I do design and production at a sign shop and am here to learn because I really don't know much. More than enough to make impressive signs, but hardly anything compared to what I want to know.

Nothing wrong with working at a sign shop. After 2 years of working for a specialty print company I recently gave it up to go work for a large sign company. I find the varied products we are capable of producing refreshing. From $150k car dealership signs with full color EMCs to complex fabricated in-store disdplays. Thanks to digital printing and a full in-house fabrication shop "design" is no longer limited to a 2 dimensional sheet of paper. I love it. A far cry from the days of cut vinyl (not that we don't still do that). Yesterday Reebok approved my design for a new shoe display system. 6 months from now I know I am going to walk into Dick's Sporting goods and see it. I love that.
Good luck with your endeavor into illustrator, which is what I used about 60% of the time at work. The rest is split between Photoshop and InDesign.
Welcome to the site, and good luck with your career.
I didn't see an "Introduce Yourself" forum, so consider your thread hijacked, alpine ;)
I'm a 32-year old designer out in sunny Southern California. I've been doing this for quite some time, but I'm constantly learning, and this site is a great resource. Glad to be here!
