Hey there, does anyone know of a plugin (or any kind of automated stuff - can be either PS or AI) that can help me do this sort of thing? Slicing the image up in little squares and moving some randomly (or maybe by a specified amount).

I can do it by hand but I have to do a few and have to admit I am really lazy, and don't feel like tinkering with it by hand.

Thanks!

I have no idea what kind of plugin would achieve that effect. That's a ton of manual work. Couldn't you make some kind of a pattern brush with it?

Don't recall ever seeing anything capable of it either.

You can get sort of close by creating a gradient, rasterizing, using Filter > Photoshop Effects > Stylize > Patchwork, set the relief to 0. Then use Live Trace, expand and delete the areas you don't want.

Still relatively manual and won't get the exact, clean squares though.

Another idea.... Rectangular grid tool... and expand and use live paint to fill squares and then delete what you don't want. Again.. fairly manual with a little bit of help.
