hi! im new here and new to illustrator.
i find alot of threads on color seperation on this forum. althou i cant make sense of it.

people was talking about "spot colors" what is that?
i tried the print - output .... but mode is gray and not available to change to seperation as someone explained.

il explain my case...

im working with a screenprint design. its basically a photo that i did a "live trace" on and then "expand" it looks neat in 4 colors. but i want to seperate the colors without dragging it back into photoshop. i guess there is a easy way..

thanks for all help i can get! :)

In printing you have process colors (colors that are made up of a mixture between Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black) and spot colors (a color that uses a matching ink).

Unless you are screen printing the design yourself, let the printer separate the image for you unless they have specifically asked for the separations.

Note: There is an option in the Live Trace dialog to output the colors to swatches.

To select and separate the colors expand the tracing and select a color with the group selection tool and click "Select, Same Fill color" Copy and paste them to a different layer (using paste in front so it doesn't move the paths). Repeat the steps for the rest of the colors in the logo.
