Can't work with text anymore.

Hello everyone.
I am new to Illustrator CS3 (but have used Photoshop for 2 years). This morning, I was unable to insert any text in Illustrator. When clicking the text tool, the word 'anchor' appears outside the document area, and I can't enter any text. I can't change Stroke or Fill. Yet, text works normally in Photoshop CS3. I am using Windows 'Vista' for the first time. What have I done to upset the program?

If anyone is interested, Illustrator is working again without a problem, and I can manipulate text as normal. I can't explain what happened, but things were looking grim yesterday!

PS Can anyone explain where to find the Illustrator Prefs file in Vista?

Thank you also for posting that you are up and running again. I don't have vista and I don't know what happened, but if I stumble across it I will report.
