I have put together a slideshow using after effects. After I rendered it, it looks splotchy in some places and the transitions between images isn't smooth in some spots. I want to know how to fix this problem because I have got a few more slideshows to do. I would also like to do a production logo at the front of my slideshows. I would appreciate any input on helpful tutorials that might help me develop a really cool animated logo for my productions.

You may try a website called creative cow, they have lots of tutorials. Check them out... http://cowcast.creativecow.net/after_effects/index.html

Rendering? Consider: motion blurring, key frames, 8/16/32 bit color.
For your logo:
Try to get a vector file and make it continually rasterize. Make it 3-d and do reverse animation (Key frame everything where you want it to end, and work backwards, it helps for me to keep things from sliding around.) Add a light, cast some shadows on a background layer. That's pretty basic, but you can get some good results.
Can you post a clip?

sometimes open gl can cause some problems with effects such as glow, try doing a render with open gl turned off
