View Full Version : This will stump you - copying names from PDFs

Hello

I have a giant long list of PDFs - each with a person's name as the title of the document. I need to get these names into a spreadsheet. I really don't want to have to copy and paste each one.

Any ideas? Is there any kind of process you can think of? I tried dropping them into Notepad and TextEdit, but no.

Thanks.

Print the window and then scan it into OCR text recognition scanner mode?

In Bridge you can make a contact sheet or webpage using metadata such as file name to label images.
Getts the names in ;P then you need to cut and paste.
should even be able to get the file list off an FTP program, or do an old fashioned "/dir *.pdf" in a dos window and copy paste (is it print dir? can't remember been years).

(if you place all the files in indesign and do a report, the report will contain all the file names)

If you know how to script you may do it faster some other way… or hang on PDF you say:rolleyes:

But I'm running out of IQ :p

Use Indesign

Get a PDF placer script from zanelli

http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/exchange/index.cfm?event=authorExtensions&authorid=75228246

Then use the Caption Script that comes with CS3

http://indesignsecrets.com/modified-script-adds-captions-from-clipboard-to-images.php

Then the export all stories to pdf

I think if you look for these things (if there is a price) you can get similar products for free.
