A few years ago, with help from several experts, I came up with a way to create some neat images with offset copies of an underlying picture in InD. This can produce quite wierd and or striking effects and the idea was presented in published form by Ace Jeff Witchel. (Layers Magazine and a variant on-line). Following another tip I was able to recreate the original effect the way I had first learned about it. The staggering of the frames was the crucial bit that no one could get done as originally presented.
If anyone is interested I post the general steps and the history behind it at my General blog site: http://spedsblog.blogspot.com/2008/09/floating-frames-effect-in-indesign.html.
Remember I am not a designer at all but I think this is a rather nice effect and developed nicely from the contributions of quite a few folks (mentioned on the blog). Eugene will be proud of me as we both believe that credit where credit is due should be the norm.
If this is of interest I'd appreciate a comment or two at the blog comments site. I do not have any hit counters, so if posts do not get comments I have no idea if anyone visits or finds the stuff there useful. Be kind with any comments please! There are other InD and Ai tips I have learned of at that site also.
Enjoy the effect. It is versatile and fun to work with. Thanks to Nick, Claudia and Jeff (for who these folks are you'll have to visit the blog) for ideas and inpiration and assistance in my learning how to do this.
ALSO - The example image is not the most spectacular I have created and is in no way meant as an endorsement - a teaser here for you to visit to see what that is all about. In fact that image does not have the offset frames (that I was originally interested in Nick's work for) but you will see how offsetting a copy of the picture below by different degrees in each frame can create a truly wierd but interesting final effect.
