Is there a way to convert a color (cmyk) image to a grayscale image directly in InDesign? Again, directly in InDesign. Thanx.

Nope. You can fake it, by putting a black filled picture frame the same size over it and change the transparency blend mode to "Color". But it's not the same as actually converting it to grayscale.
You would need a photoediting software, like photoshop or other to make the image actually grayscale.
Indesign is a page-layout package, it's not really for editing photos etc.

Huh. I could have sworn there was a way. Thanks for the input though.

You can PRINT to Grayscale
You can PRINT to PDF and make it grayscale in the print dialog box
You can Export to PDF and Grayscale the PDF in acrobat
As far as converting the colour directly in InDesign, you can't.

You can convert an image to grayscale in Illustrator, but only items that are created in Illustrator and that aren't gradients. I think. Can't test it, because I haven't installed Illy on my new laptop yet.
