Using After Effects, Is there a way to extrude an object to give it a more 3D appearence? For instance I used the basic 3D effect to achieve the look of coins fliping into and out of my composition. I would like to make them appear thicker when looking at them on edge. Can any one help?:)

One way that people create extruded text and shapes in After Effects is to use the Shatter effect. Another method involves duplicating a layer many times and spacing the duplicates such that they appear to form a solid 3D shape. There's a link to a tutorial that describes these methods in the "Shatter effect" (http://livedocs.adobe.com/en_US/AfterEffects/8.0/WS3878526689cb91655866c1103a9d3c597-7a8d.html) section of After Effects CS3 Help on the Web.
You can also use additional plug-ins like Zaxwerks 3D Invigorator to make extruded shapes and text. You can check a site like Toolfarm (http://toolfarm.com/) for such additional plug-ins.
For more information, try searching using the new After Effects Community Help search (http://community.adobe.com/help/search.html?q=extrusions&lbl=aftereffects_product_adobelr) on the Adobe website.
