Use the Pen Tool. Draw from scratch or trace over an image. If you don't know how to use the pen then you need to spend some time learning the basics of Illustrator.

yes:

• You can hire a graphic artist to draw it for you
• You can program a plug-in application for illustrator to draw smiles
• You can build a robot to draw smiles in Illustrator
• Get a million monkeys do draw randomly on a million computers in Adobe Illustrator. Given enough time one will eventually draw one.

Aside from finding an existing smile on the internet, or using the livetrace function which may or may not yield acceptable results given the original image: drawing / tracing by hand using the pen tool is the simplest and easiest option. It's 20 seconds and a couple of anchor points. Play around with the pen tool (read about it in the help section) and you can draw that in no time. It does not get much easier.

Is this a serious question?

I think there are two aspects that need to be considered. One is the tools in illustrator, the second is the reification of the percieved image in the artists mind.
Is the question asking for a critique in the characteristics of a smile or is it a question on using illustrator. I think both previous answers, besides making me smile, are answering the question asked instead of questioning the question itself… this is my sunday afternoon philosophical mood speaking.

Focus:–
what was the question really? Is it illustrator or smiles that baffle you? (don't worry as far as I understood the discussion has been if leonardo figured out mona lisas smile, and how long it took)

Believe me, all of what you describe passed through my mind also. I thought about answering two questions:
1. How do you make this (perfect) smile?
2. How do you make this object?

Anyway, in the end I couldn't be bothered and it's clear that if the OP is genuine then he/she needs to put some time in with the program....and post a better image as an example.
