I am in need of some help... after numerous unsuccessful searches, I am turning to the message boards for help.

I just upgraded to CS4 and am having trouble importing tagged text. In the past I have used <ASCII-MAC>, which usually allows the paragraph style sheets I have set up to work perfectly with the coding, however with this upgrade... they arent working at all. ASCII is no longer and option (Under character set). I have a huuuge project coming up and need some immediate help.

Does anyone have a tagged text manual (like CS3) - or a tutorial on how i can add this option??? Or any other suggestions? Currently, I only use paragraph style sheets and they work extremely well for me. I don't understand why its not an option and I need some help getting it to read my coding. I hope I have provided enough information, if not... please let me know and I can elaborate. Thank you....

Had a programmer friend who had problems with his tagged text and it was in the file header that the codepage was specified. I think the way I went about it was to export tagged text from indesign and re-import it, then analyse the first few lines to see where the differences were.

One way to test new features is add one feature at a time and look at the code/tags it produces. I know this is areverse engenering, and a manual is better, but may get you going till you find the complete guide. (isn't there a guide in a goodies folder). I'll see if I get a chance to test it, but wanted to give you something to go by in the meantime.

Okay, I tried to export the tagged text in InDesign CS4, as you suggested and I cannot export tagged text. I just got off the phone with Adobe and they said they got rid of this option with this new version... whaaaat the heck???

They suggested I used ANSI-MAC, but I cannot get that to work either. Does anyone else use tagged text in CS4? I have a huge project starting this week and I have all the files set up as ASCII and now they are all useless to me, according to Adobe. HELP!!

Sorry to think in terms of workaround, but do you still have access to an older version InDesign? In your situation (and with other systems requiring plug ins for older versions) I would have a workstation with the older version available, do the tag text to CS2 or CS3, then when that is done open it in CS4 to do the finishing fixes.
It's not slick, but it should work.

P.S. I did try placing older tagged files in CS4 and it was not a problem, the results were as previous InDesign.
