I am working with an animated .gif in Dreamweaver and I have two questions: Why can't I see the .gif in Design View? And is it possible, if I can see the .gif, to hotspot certain sections to link to a website within the .gif?
Thanks
Tom

Well an animated .gif is a series of images placed on different "layers" and the layers turn on and off in sequence. So to have that eating away at the memory while trying to something in dreamweaver (which uses plenty of system resources) it would be cumbersome and hard to concentrate on the layout and design with an animation going off. But you can Ctlr (Cmd) F12 to preview in browser.
And again, to hotspot it, you'd have to put a hotspot over each "layer" of the animation, so that each layer has the hotspot, which you can probably do in Fireworks or Photoshop.

if you want to use a static area on the gif for your hot spots, you might want to look into the area tag. here's a link (http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_area.asp) to a good example.
i don't think it would work at different times in the animation, but it will work more like a transparent box over the whole image. hope that helps
