Hello, all.

I'm pretty new to Illustrator, but I've managed to score some really nice design ideas. And now, I've designed a logo for my company, however, when I saved it as a JPEG, there was a white background behind the text! What I'm I doing wrong?

Here's the logo in a nutshell: it's a photo, directly underneath the photo is one word text, and a small TM symbol. The photo is black & white, the text is black. I've tried saving everything as a JPEG. But when I open it up in AI and put the logo against a color background, there is a white background behind the black text.
Could someone please tell me how to remove this white background or how to create and save this logo properly?

Thanks for your help.

Hi logox,

There's no transparency in JPGs. Save your logo as a Layered Photoshop file with no background.

Place it in Illustrator without Flattening.

That should do it.

But why doesn't this person just add the text in AI?

Thanks.

O.K., I imported the logo into Photoshop, as is. Then I saved it as a PSD (I do not know how to save it without a background, and I didn't know how to separate the logo into separate layers).
Then I copied the logo from Photoshop and placed it into Illustrator...
Same problem, white background behind the text.
What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

Scottie.

Originally this is what I thought. However, after I opened the image in AI, then added text, there still was a white background. Now, if I can't save the logo in AI as JPEG, what file format should I save it in? Keep in mind, I would like the ability to use this logo on stationary, t-shirts, calendars, etc.

Thanks

Can you upload the logo so we can look at it? See below "manage attachments"

load your logo in PS. Do apple-a, select all. Then do apple-c, copy. Now open a new document, make SURE you pick transparent background. While still in this new document do apple-v, paste. Now use the magic wand tool and select the area outside of your logo. When the unwanted areas are selected delete them by pressing the delete key. Now save the file as a photoshop file select keep layers and text. now go to AI and place the image you've just created on a new drawing page. Embed the linked image, go to link- options-embed. You shouldn't have a white background any more.

I am having a similar problem...

Have an logo that is in .jpg format, and a .gif with transparent background.

However, when I try to place it over a full page image it still has a white background much larger than the logo.

Now, to solve the problem I just imported the full page image into photoshop and then the logo and placed it over the full page easily. But, then it is fixed, and if I want to move it I need to edit it in pshop.

But, I would like to know, for future reference how to do it in illustrator.

TIA.

Couldn't you save the image as a png file with a transparent bg?
