I am VERY frustrated, but then, knots in my shoelaces frustrate me. I have just installed Adobe CS4 Premium. I am in Illustrator and ALL I WANT TO DO is to be able to access SOME SORT OF SIMPLE help file to get some basic information about the INFO PALETTE. Hitting either Help on the menu or F1 throws me to a (in MY opinion) EXTREMELY confusing Adobe website. What happened to a .chm file? Is there any help that comes with CS4 and is on MY computer?

FYI... the information I want is to know how to adjust the size of a rectangle by typing in a number in the INFO PALETTE to have the rectangle resize to the specified size. Is that so hard?

More importantly, I would like to have access to any HELP FILES on MY computer. I do not always have Internet access. The thought has just occured to me that I may not have installed it since all I installed (to the best of my knowledge) was the application. Any advice, help, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
...Dave

When you draw a rectangle the context sensitive tool bar at the top should display the transform information for the size of your rectangle and you can type in the numbers there to change the size. The Info panel only displays the "info (i.e. size, position, etc)" of the object but if you want to make it visible just click "Window > Info"

As far as help only being online, I think that is true unless you have the CS4 disks. The last disk has CS4 training and tutorials on it.

Hi daring,

Press the M key on your keyboard to quickly access your Rectangle tool. Click once with the Rectangle tool anywhere in the work area to open a dialog window. Specify your Width and Height, and click OK. You're done.

Have fun,

Ace

Thanks (in no particular order) Husker, AdobeAce, and Todd. I will check the link about the help file. I definitely have the disks. Additionally, thanks for pointing me in the direction for SPECIFYING object sizes.

Illustrator can be overwhelming. Since you are here, you must have some web access, and there are lotts of great resources on the www. I would say if you are brand new to the software lynda.com does have the very basic lessons accessable for free (ofc they are trying to get you hooked to buy a subscription :o) but the basics are great to watch rather than try to figure out by reading.

Welcome to ask again if there is something that you don't get to grips with.
