Hey guys and gals... I am to my wits end with this problem  ... I am a graphic design student and the only one in my school using a macintosh. I am in an audio for multimedia class and the school provides Adobe Audition for students leasing a school laptop (99% of the students), however, Audition is not available for the mac. I have gone through many programs trying to find one that was simple to use and professional enough to work for this class. Now we are going onto audio for video. I haven't found a good audio program let alone one that will handle both audio and video as well as audition... anyone know of a good alternative to audition for the mac?

Thanks :D

I don't know exactly what you're trying to do but ProTools is one of the industry standard audio programs for Mac. The light version (which is really full featured) comes free if you purchase an Mbox (a digital audio interface). I think they're running right around $400 right now.

Best of Luck!

You may be able to use Final Cut Express, it comes with SoundTrack for free. In soundtrack you have the ability to view video to score a movie soundtrack, you can do basic mixing and recording, work with loops etc. I think it's about $250. I have it and it works very nice.

I think SoundTrack is roughly the equivalent of Adobe's Audition.

The other programs that PaulC didn't mention are Cubase, and Logic. I think Cubase is similar to ProTools, I'm not sure what Logic is but has something to do with recording.

Try the MusciansFriend web site they have lots of info and customer reviews.

Are both of these compatible with the Mac? I am a new Mac user and am having some slight difficulties with the transition from PC

For "everything" in audio for the Mac, take a look at :

It's a very extensive list (by categories).
