Sorry for what will probably be the obvious, but here goes,

I have Quark 5, runs in Classic on OSX Tiger (I know, weak). I want to make the switch to InDesignCS2.

Will any of my Quark files transfer over to InDesign CS2? Will they all have to be recreated?

Thanks,

Matt

I believe Quark Q5 makes encrypted files (I imagine to stop migration of users to indesign!
Save your Q5 file as a Q4 and that should open into InDesign

Welcome to the "New world"

In general, the conversion is made with no problems. But you have to check some things.

ID CS and CS2 can open a copy of a QX doc from version 3.3 to version 4.11.

Open in QX first and make sure all the links are up to date; make sure too that all the fonts are installed on your computer.

There might be problems with line endings (ID use by default the Paragraph Composer). You might want to make corrections using the Single-line composer in your converted version.

Drop caps might cause problems too. Most of the time you will have to delete and recreate them. And there might be problems with text wrap and grouped objects.

You can check with a tech doc at Adobe site on this subject :

I've taken this from the Magazine Proxy,vol.1,#4.
