Adobe Illustrator error message reads "Acrobat PDF File Format is having difficulties. The file is damaged and could not be repaired".

First off I will tell as much as I know and what I have done but to no avail. One important piece of information. I can see the file in windows explorer or any program that I tried to open it with. The thumbnail of the file looks fine. I can see the artwork and the latest changes. I will always expand or convert to outlines my fonts from now on because this is what I think screwed it up. Also, I think I will be working in EPS from on unless it has the same problems so please share with this newbie.

1) search the forums here and read.
2.) tried the place feature in AI, would not open
3.) tried opening in Inkscape, would not open
3a.) tried importing into Inkscape, would not open
4.) tried opening in Gimp, would not open
5.) tried opening in Acrobat, would not open
6.) have watched youtube videos talking about qwark express and Q2ID but realized this was for Indesign not AI 10. Do they have something for AI 10?
7.) have modified the preference file to enable recovery by setting parameter to 1 and using the alt+shift+crtl and open file method, would not open
8.) now I am messing with python and the scripts on Inkscape and have not successfully executed the script yet.

Like I said, I see the fricking file in as a thumbnail with the latest changes. I know some method would be able to open this. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!

Can you place it in InDesign. If you can, with it selected, choose File>Export and select EPS from the drop down menu.

Do it on a blank page to the size of the image.

If you can place it to InDesign you can probably export it to many file formats including PDF.

If it still isn't working try going to www.zamzar.com and try a conversion to PDF from there (no guarantee on results).

If so you can try saving it as an EPS, and then opening the EPS in Illustrator.
You can een try right clicking on the PDF once it is open to edit in Illustrator.
