Sunburn Effect or Light Leak

There is one effect I have seen used in everything from the Dos Equis Man of Mystery Commercial, to the Important things with Demeteri Martin Promo. I call it a \"sunburn\" effect. Where there is a brief flash of orange/red, like light leaking into the lens. I have also seen this used in Stills. Any Quick Tip on how to recreate this in After Effects and/or Photoshop?

Any help would be appreciated.

There are tons of ways to accomplish this. Some use plugins (check out Twitch (http://www.videocopilot.net/products/twitch/) by VideoCopilot if you want some crazy stuff) but some could just be done with the basics. If you wanted to keep it sparse you could just keyframe the opacity of a red solid layer that is masked and feathered set to overlay mode. Maybe even add some movement to the layer or the mask path. Play around and look into some plugins if you are going to be doing a lot of it.
