Hi,

I would like to cut a shape from a rectangle with the scribble effect applied so that the background shows through. File attached (edit - couldnt attach file due to file size limit, even compressed).

I can use pathfinder to subtract the shape but this doesn't give me the result I want as the scribble bleeds into the shape I'm cutting out.

Anyone know how to do this or can suggest a better method? The effect I'm trying to achieve is a large area of chalk which has a clean swipe from a chalkboard rubber through it. I'm just experimenting with a star shape at the moment.

Is the problem that the scribble effect is applied to the whole layer and/or the whole compound path which results from the pathfinder subtract?

Thanks,

Luke.

Seems like you will need to do some kind of masking, but would be easier to guide you if I could see how your work looks.

Other option is expanding the scribbled stuff before cutting through it... but a picture would really help explain.

thanks for the reply. I got it sorted. Its crazy that you cant attach photoshop / illustrator to posts in this forum. You can on the adobe forums which is where I think I'll post from now on.

Thanks very much for the reply though. I needed to create a compound path and then apply that as a clipping mask.
