Questions about patterns in icon design (Illustrator)...

Hello all:

I am new to this forum and really signed up because I see a good deal of tips and tricks about various Adobe programs being shared and everyone seems so knowledgeable. I am surprised that I am asking this question, because I am not new to Illustrator.

I have attached a file with this post called icon_sample.jpg. What I need to know is how to create the wave pattern design (in file labeled 1) as well as the two wavy/circular polka dot patterns (in file labeled 2).

Also, once I create them would I be able to use the Pathfinder >intersect tool to fit these patterns into a square that will be my icon?

That's alot of info to fit in one icon.

The wave you can make with a blend or a gradient mesh. The dotts I'd make with a dotted line that I would blend in specified steps with a second dotted line.
