I was hoping someone could explain this filter to me:

I am following a tutorial on how to apply certain effects on text. When using the wind filter on smaller text images (say, 300x200pixels), the effect works perfectly. However, if I make a large font size in Illustrator (150pt) and then bring it into Photoshop to apply the effects, the wind filter does not work at all.

Is it just not possible to use that filter on much larger images/text, or is there a pixel setting somewhere I am missing?

Hey Hero,

I was unable to duplicate your issue. In Photoshop CS2, text brought in from Illustrator responded to the wind filter just fine. It does need to be rasterized first, but it works.

Have you tried just creating the text in Photoshop and applying wind to it there?

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

First off, I should have stated, I'm using Photoshop CS (not that this should matter in this instance)

I've tried with 150pt text in a 9x5 canvas, 400dpi (CMYK) and it still does not show the effect after I have applied it. Are you sure you tried with 150pt text?

Thanks for responding.

I've discovered that the effect does work, but it's so insignificant on a large image/text that you can barely notice it - you can't notice it at all with white text on a black background, which is what I was attempting.

I guess my next question becomes, 'is it possible to increase the spread/pixels of this effect?' ... so it looks something like this: http://www.pslover.com/click/7045

There's a control on the wind filter that does that (but not precisely). I believe there are 3 settings.

You can also apply it several, or many times. I have done that before…
