CS2 target layers to move

So todays fun is downloading the free trial of Photoshop CS2. All went well and I'm off in discovery land. The first thing that I notice is that I can no longer target layers and move them without selecting the layer from the palette. Am I missing something? That is really slowing me down. This just seems like a giant step backwards to me. Spent quite a while trying to look up some answers in the hlep and gave up. Is there some preference to get that targeting back that I had in the older versions of Photoshop?

Isn't the Auto Select Layers checkbox still on the menu bar when you have the Move tool selected? I think this is what you are talking about…
