Hi,

I was wondering why when I select a load of text layers, like for a navigation list going horizontally from left to right, how do I create an even amount of distribution between each element.

Cheers

Here's a couple of different ways:

Set the marquee tool to the size of the space you want. Drag a guide onto the bottom of the first line, snape the sized selection to it, drag a guide to the bottom of the selection, snape the next line of text to the bottom of that guide, etc.

You could also sort of step and repeat the first line by duplicating the first text layer and then tranforming that down the correct amount, change the text, duplicate and repeat transform, etc…

There might be a more elegant way but this is how I would approach it…

Will that eveny space out the text elements?

The second method will space them at exact intervals for sure, you are moving the type layer with Free Transform and then repeat Transform will just repeat the move. Kind of like Step and Repeat in Quark or InDesign.

Oh, ok, well I would have thought Adobe would have a more elegant way of doing it.

I know the align controls allow me to evenly space out layers that have images in them rather than text, but when I try it with text it doesn't seem to have the desired effect, probably because of the variant lengths of textual elements.

Perhaps a wish list for CS3?

The other two main programs: Illy and ID have this feature but PS does not. Someone may come along later with a more elegant way but this works…

best of luck

I wouldn't count on Adobe adding this type of feature to photposhop.

Why?

Because it is not really a photo operation.

Never in all my days of darkroom operation have I ever needed to evenly space somthing on my photos.

Except maybe burton-board operations. Anyone know what a burton-board is?
