Foundations: Creating a Simple Flash Animation

Every now and again I want to take some time and dedicate it to some bare bones learning on the blog. I’m tentatively calling it ‘Foundations’. The premise here will be simple: If I can show it to you in 10 steps or less – it’s fair game.
Before I get into it however, I do want to make sure that I tell you – be sure to click on our newest episode of Layers TV. I’m really excited this week because we had Matt Kloskowski stop in to talk to us about Lightroom. Definitely worth checking out!
ANIMATING IN FLASH
This week, I was checking out the Layers Forums and someone was looking to find out how to make a Flash animation for a banner. I couldn’t think of a better place to start, so let’s get right to it:
1. Before you start, make sure that you have 2 images that are 250px by 250px (made in Photoshop).
2. Click on File-New menu, and select the Templates from the dialog. This will have sections for commonly-used sizes. Select the 250×250 popup from the list.
3. Change the properties of the movie that you are making in the stage to 24fps (you can find it in the Property Bar at the bottom).
4. Click on File-Import to Library and select the 2 images that you created.

If you want to check out the rest of it, click here to go to the full tutorial. Only 5 more steps to go!
