A Student and Teacher | New Flash Tutorial | Layers Blog Contest Winner
Living In Layers | By RC | May 09, 2008 | 2 Comments
Hey everyone! Let's go ahead and make up for the light post today, shall we? Good..

So, it's sad for me to say, but I finished my two day classes over at The Eventspace at B&H. I have to send a special thanks to the guys (and Jen!) for having me out there to spend time with our current and new NAPP members. It really was great to be able to meet all of you and share some cool creative goodness. It's a shame that I'm heading home. Sunday, the Event Space has Joyce Tenneson giving a talk... argh! If I could only change my flight. Be sure to go out there and check them out if you want to see an amazing photographer at work.
The School of Visual Arts & Katrin Eismann
After I was finished teaching, I found myself wanting to switch roles and be a student for a little bit, so I did some walking. A couple of blocks later, I met up with Laura and Katrin Eismann over at the School of Visual Arts.
Katrin chairs the SVA's Master of Professional Studies in Digital Photography, and I got to take a tour of their facilities and check out where all of this magic happens. SVA is an amazing institution, and the only thing that would keep me from actually hanging out there and taking the program is the fact that I moved to Florida. Period. To learn from Katrin would be amazing. Nuff said!
I will leave you with this though. If you want to catch some Katrin online, make sure you get out there to the Kelby Training website. She has a class called Black and White Artistry. Thank you for the warm welcome. I'll definitely be reporting from SVA next time that I am out there.
Adorama Hosts Joe McNally
I didn't hang out at SVA too long though - I was on a mission to get to Adorama!

Adorama has got a training space among their immense facilities, and on this night, they had the incomparable Joe McNally giving a presentation, and teaching a little bit about small flash systems. While Joe is also available on the Kelby Training website doing classes, it is always a treat to get out there and see him do his thing live. Adorama was packed, and put on a great show way extending themselves past the curfew to make sure that everyone got the maximum amount of the presentation.
My hat's off to Adorama seminar group. Next time I'm in town I'm keeping their schedule really close by. Make sure you do as well. Thanks for the warm welcome, guys! I still can't believe I missed Lou Manna demonstrating digital food photography. Scott went.. check out what he had to say about it on his blog.
If you click on the jump, I have a Flickr slideshow of the Adorama talk with Joe, a cool tutorial on animating blurs with Flash, and the Layers Blog Contest winner.
Quick Blog Thursday!

Hey everyone! I am on my way into B&H for my class on Layers and Adjustments. I wanted to at least leave you with some cool stuff on the front end.
Every time I post sometime on the blog, I usually try to reserve some space for tutorials or reviews that we may have coming up. And because I'm a little long winded, I usually need to put them after the jump.
However.. this morning I'm not long winded.. and thank goodness Mark Fleming has got a cool tutorial on Black and White toning in Photoshop CS3.
Click here to take a peek at the tutorial.
We'll be right back here tomorrow with a regularly scheduled blog. :)
When HTML Goes Bad | Tripod Scares | My Random Images in NYC
Living In Layers | By RC | May 06, 2008 | 2 Comments
Hey everyone! It's Day 3 of the NYC visit and things are going well. I'm keeping this post short because I am getting ready to do a class at the B&H workspace. However, I did want to share with you a couple of things.
New Savings Perk From Our Friends at CDW
Starting May 1, when you purchase any Adobe software from CDW, you will receive free unlimited access to online classes from Kelby Training for one month. This special offer is good through June 30, 2008. Read more about this in the jump...
New Janine Warner Tutorial
Janine Warner is at it again, giving us a cool article on when HTML goes bad. This article is a great primer on how to debug and assess HTML code. Worth a read.

Scott's Tripod Post Brings People Out
A couple of days ago, Scott, Matt, and I were stopped on our way to our hotel rooms.. in short.. because we were carrying tripods on our shoulders. Whether it's a good pre-emptive move on behalf of security, or a overly-obsessive tilt that affects creative individuals, the post has really brought people out to talk for and against it. Definitely worth a look at Scott's Blog.
Check out the jump for the Layers TV contest winner, the info on the special, and a Flickr gallery slideshow of some random things I've checked out in NYC.
More on B&H Week | New Tutorial Posting | Inspiring Site of the Day
Living In Layers | By RC | May 06, 2008 | 1 Comments

Hey everyone! Tuesday will be a very quick read because I'm running all over the place for NAPP week, here at B&H. I wanted to make sure you guys got a shot of what it looks like in the classroom. This is Matt teaching his Lightroom class to a sold out audience.
Now.. keep in mind, Sold Out only means that the place is full. The thing is - they're not selling the class! That's right. If you go to the Event Space site on B&H you can sign up and come and take a look at the classes for the rest of the week for free. That's pretty cool.
Inspiring Site : David Hobby
David Hobby over at The Strobist has got some cool posts and pictures from his recent trip out to Dubai. Make sure you check out the link to that!
Finally, Dave Cross has got a great tutorial on Offset dashes. Be sure to click on the link below to get to it:
Dave Cross - Offset Dashes in Photoshop CS3
Keeping it short and sweet today, everyone. Have yourself a wonderful day. Tomorrow, I'll share some more NYC pictures.

Happy Monday everyone! I am back in my hometown of New York, and I have to say I am loving it! Yes, Florida is very, very cool, but when it comes right down to it, New York is just that place that makes me feel at home. This was actually taken yesterday out in Hoboken, on a field trip with Scott and Matt. I'll leave the cool story about what happened to us on Sunday for Scott to share .. but it was neat. Click on his website to get the full scoop.
We're here in New York teaching at B&H Photo this week, and Scott, Matt, Corey, and myself all have classes throughout the four days. If you are in the NY area, be sure to check out the B&H Event Space Link to see what classes are available and which you can attend. They're free.. and they're great!
