Interesting Customizable Video | Janine Warner on Dreamweaver

Let’s kick it off with something funny and interesting. I’m keeping it short because by the time you read this, I’m in Orlando at the Scott Kelby Lightroom 2 seminar!

I got this email from my friend Al Fudger.  Clicking on the video, I totally thought I had thought I was framed and believed it for a second.. then I was like…waaait a minute, I haven’t even gone to vote yet! Then, I saw the website – CNNBC? Wait a minute.. something’s amiss here.

Now, putting aside any political leanings (I’m in no position to tell anyone who to vote for.. or who I will vote for for that matter), I thought this was was a GREAT use of technology to create something very viral.  It’s engaging, funny, and highly sticky and whether you agree with their position or not, it will definitely gain some viral traction on the webs, promoting the organizations message.  Very good viral use here.. so cheers to them.  At bare minimum, I thought it was funny!

Click here to go to the original website to see how to customize it. I’d be very interested to see how this was achieved from a tech standpoint.

Janine Warner On Dreamweaver
Ah, how I love Janine Warner. Here she is bringing us some cool XML slideshow goodness all in Dreamweaver. Check it out!

“This tutorial works for both Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 and CS4

Looking for a quick and easy way to add Flash slideshows to your pages? Consider the XML Flash Slideshow v3 extension from www.DWUser.com. For $29, this extension adds an arsenal of options, including a variety of layouts, height and width adjustments, color options, and other settings. You can add a title, caption, link, and other details to each image individually. And you can even add watermarks as you create galleries. Like the web gallery in Dreamweaver, the extension can be used to resize images and thumbnails automatically (as long as you have Firefox on your computer).

In this tutorial, you find detailed instructions for how to use the Dreamweaver XML Flash Slideshow Extension v.3 to create a customized slide show.”

Gotta run! I’ll see you guys tomorrow morning!

You can even have fun with it by putting in someone’s (some loser’s) name, and emailing it to yourself, for some self amusement when they “curse em out” and you see the name = loser… its for the 5 year old in me…

I saw one of these made for a “{insert name} nominated for president” thing. It worked the same way, with video playing and dynamic text boxes on top of it. So I decided to see if I could break it by putting in waaaayy to much text in the name input boxes, and surprisingly it held up well. The text just scales down the more there is, so if you overload it you just get tiny, tiny text. You should try it, it’s fun to see how it works… I guess.
