An easier way to switch the target between the clipping mask and the contents is to select the clipped object, then click on the “edit contents” button in the properties bar. This will change the selection to the objects being clipped allowing you to align to those without having to search through your sublayers. Click on the “edit clipping path” to go back to using the clipping path selection.
