Episode Summary

RC goes through some of the general processes when using Lightroom and looks at some of the new features in Lightroom 2.

  • Photographers use Lightroom to archive, sort, view and print their photos
  • Import your photos into Lightroom collections to keep them organized
  • Including metadata with your photos will help you organize them
  • Use Lightroom’s ranking system to identify your best images
  • The slideshow module assists photographers with displaying their photos
  • Lightroom 2 has some improvements, including the ability to add vignettes after cropping
  • Lightroom 2 also has graduated filter function and selective editing with the adjustment brush
  • Visit the Lightroom Learning Center to learn more about the Lightroom application

Special guest Jean Francois O’Kane shares a photography video on lighting your subject with one light.

  • It is simple to do a portrait using one light
  • The smaller the light source, the sharper the shadows. The larger the light source, the softer the shadows
  • Use an umbrella to diffuse the light source and soften the shadows
  • Move your light source to the side of your subject to eliminate back shadow
  • After setting the light source, take a meter reading and white balance adjustment from the highlight side of the subject
  • Use a gray card to set the exposure and adjust the white balance
  • A reflector can be used to lighten the shadow side of your subject

This will bring you to the show listing page. All you need to do then is just find the episode you want, and click on “Get Episode” from the link on the right.

I’m going to make this the basis of a tutorial for next week. Stay tuned!
