Episode Summary

Corey goes over some of the cool things you can do with a Wacom pen tablet.

  • All of the tablet and pen functions are customizable
  • Set the pen’s pop-up menu so that the buttons will open/run your favorite applications
  • You can also set the pen button to open the switch application option
  • These options are great for bringing your keyboard functions over to your pen tablet for fast and easy access

Rich Harrington is back again and this time he is talking to Corey about moving layer styles from Photoshop to After Effects and back again.

  • CS3 integration allows you to bring a layered Photoshop file into After Effects, which you will usually import as a composition
  • When importing, select the option to be able to edit the layer styles so that you can make changes to them in After Effects
  • You will notice the same layer options in After Effects that you see in Photoshop. Everything is flexible
  • You can also create layer effects in AE and bring them into Photoshop
  • The list of layer styles in After Effects is the same as the one in Photoshop
  • If you want to take a composition from After Effects to Photoshop, go to Composition>same frame as>Photoshop file. You can take this into Photoshop and back again
  • Find out more from Rich at PhotoshopforVideo.com or buy the book on Amazon.com

Corey,

I also asked these questions on your site (www.planetphotoshop.com), but I figured I’d ask them here too…

I had some questions regarding Wacom tablets. I’ve been wanting one for quite some time and watching you always plugging away on your’s on Layers TV makes me want one even more. Right now I have about $200 set aside that I can use, I saw that the Bamboo Fun medium and the Intuos 4×6 (I think that’s the entry/small one) both fall into this area. My question is which one woudl you get? I’m guessing the Intuos is higher quality, but the Bamboo offers a way bigger work area. On top of this question, am I better off waiting a bit longer and getting a larger size Intuos? (I think it’ll be a little while before I can go the Cintiq route).

I currently have 2 19in displays, I pretty much use 1 for my work space and the other holds all my windows (when working in Photoshop).

Thanks,
Mike Paterson
