I usually do the drag/drop method when bringing an image from Photoshop into Illustrator. My problem is that there is always a white box behind my selection that just won't go away even if I try to use the eraser tool. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for time and help!

Hello all,
If you get the white background then this is what you do. Save your PSD file without any background, just the object that you need to place onto Illustrator file. That should solve it!!!

Hi I want to place an ps file into illustrator, but when i do, it always comes with a white background, even thought the ps file has no background. Does anyone know how to place the image only?

I am being completely blonde on this project. I am using illustrator to live trace a map. I can get all the tracing to work, but now I need each state to be saved separately on layers so we can pick and choose how we group them. The files are to be used to build a flash interface wherein customers can view any state or the whole region and click into the next level of data.

I'm training someone in both applications & this is really helpful - thanks. It's worth mentioning that when copying from illustrator to photoshop (using the smart object method), make sure that the psd files is no smaller than the illustrator file - otherwise the object will be automatically re-sized.
