Living In Layers - The OFFICIAL Layers Magazine Blog
New LayersTV Show | Jeff Schewe @ PixelPerfect | Minifonts on Sale!

Happy Wednesday everyone! Let’s catch up with some other material here:
First and foremost – Layers TV. Click on the box to the right of this post to check out our newest episode. Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve gotten quite a bit of email asking how to work with the basics in Flash, and I wanted to spend some time working on just that. This week we just talk about the concept of buttons.
I have to say, I’m really excited about working with Flash CS3 and Actionscript 3.0, but I feel like the more Flash evolves, the steeper the learning curve for a person who wants to get into it to design. The basics of Flash haven’t changed much: Symbols, Tweening, Masks, Guides, Scenes, and Layers all still behave the way they did in earlier versions. It’s getting these things to have some form of interactivity that causes a headache for most people I know. They start Flash, hope for a project, then close it, frustrated that a lot of effort is required to get something up and running.
On the other hand, I completely understand that in order for you to have a robust programming language that’s standards-driven, and modular enough to future-proof, you’re going to have to build something that isn’t going to be for some of the faint of heart. That’s got to be a dance that is very hard to do. I’ll be sure to spend some time easing you into Flash stuff as gently as I can, as well as bringing you things that are Flash-based, but that don’t require a degree in computer science to get off the ground.
Bert Monroy’s PixelPerfect show has legendary Photoshop Master Jeff Schewe on it. Bert and Jeff spend some time going back and forth talking about Adobe Camera Raw – so it’s a must visit. I love Schewe’s no nonsense approach to dropping some massive knowledge about a very important feature in Photoshop. He’s literally re-wrote the book on it – Real World Camera Raw with Adobe Photoshop CS3. Be sure to check it out!
Last but not least – I was doing the usual font troll on the web when I went and stopped by one of my favorite font sites – Minifonts.com . I’ll spend more time talking about why I love these on another post – there’s bigger things happening here: Their entire font library is now available for 99 dollars! I remember seeing prices like $400-600 at one point, so for them to drop like that is a great plus. You can even get a free sample by clicking on the link below. Be sure to check them out at the Minifonts website.
