Photoshop World Wrap Up | Neon Effects in Illustrator | Contest Time

joe-m-pano.jpg

Happy Monday everyone! We’re back in the office after an exhausting, wonderful time at Photoshop World this year. There were tons of things to see and do. With an extra day on the show floor – I got a chance to take a look at some really interesting things. (Note: If you want to check out more about the conference, Jennifer Bontempi is still posting pics and comments over at the Photoshop World Blog. – make sure you check it out)

safaribooks.jpgThe first thing that caught my eye was Safari Books Online. From Presentation Zen to the Zen of CSS design, Web Design Workshop to Classroom in a Book, they are all here. For a subscription fee, you can have access to thousands of books, right on your web browser. I’m going to play with this over the next couple of weeks and let you guys know how I do. Make sure you check it out.

mpix.jpgIn the world of online photo labs, there are two companies – Mpix, and those trying to catch up to Mpix. Wonderful customer service, incredible turnaround time, AMAZING picture quality, and a ton of different product options – one use of Mpix, and you will immediately become a believer. At the office, the printers are getting used less and less these days, replaced by the grinning faces of people coming back from the shipping room with their Mpix delivery. I think I’m going to send a couple of things out to them and show you guys on the show.. it really is incredible stuff.

colormunki2.jpgColormunki definitely turned some heads at the conference, but I wish I had spent more time with it. Combining monitor calibration, printer calibration, swatch saving, and sharing among apps, Colormunki looks poised to be a really cool app to simplify color management process. Again.. the preliminary reports look good here, but until we bang on it in our labs.. we’re going to keep a positively anxious tone here at the blog.

Ok.. so a cool tutorial and contest time await for you after the jump. Stick around!

Neon Effects in Illustrator
Megan Murphy has got a great tutorial on how to create cool neon effects right from within Illustrator CS3. Make sure you check out her tutorial by clicking on this link

Contest Time!
Ok. Here’s a contest for you guys to cut your chops on for the week. Lightroom 2.0 has been launched in addition to the Lightroom 2.0 Learning Center. There have been some cool developments (no pun intended) for the print module in Lightroom 2.0 Beta. Go to the Contact section of the page and select Layers TV from the drop-down. In the contact form, mention one of the cool things that has changed in there and you will win a copy of Scott Kelby’s Lightroom Book for Digital Photographers, as well as Matt’s Lightroom Basic Training DVD. To add even more spice to this, I’ll throw in a full year subscription to Layers Magazine as well. Entries will be taken until Thursday 5PM and the winner will be announced on Friday morning.

Time to start clearing up my inbox. Thanks for keeping up with me here. More fun stuff tomorrow so stick around!
