Portraits with Zoom Lenses | The Flash CS4 Bones Tool | Contest Time

Hey everyone. Sorry about that.. my Monday turned into Tuesday while I was over here getting everything ready for Photoshop World. Make sure you make plans on coming!! In either event, I had to wrap up some stuff on the 3 classes that I’m teaching, and then I said “Whoa… the blog!!” Hey.. at least it gave you more time with my Twitter essay (thanks for those of you writing back in!)

I’ll make it up to you.. let’s draw 2 winners for a contest this week, OK?

Portraits with Zoom Lenses
So you’re sitting there with your DSLR, and you have a zoom lens. You take a portrait picture, and you say to yourself “ewww.. that’s not what I saw behind the camera at all! Why does her face look so big?!?” Jean-Francois O’Kane from The Studio Coach walks us through the problems of distortion and how it appears on lenses with a portrait. Simply – shoot at the furthest focal length of your lens and you’ll be good. What happens if you don’t? Well, check out the video to see:

Tom Green: Flash CS4 and the Bones Tool
One of the most interesting features to come out of Flash CS4 is the use of the Bones tool. The bones (or Inverse Kinematics- if you are nerdily inclined) allows you to take a shape and connect it to other shapes using a series of bones. Imagine your arm as a series of shapes: Bicep, Forearm, and Hand. Now Imagine those joints represented in Flash. It’s sweet! Tom Green takes us through the process at the link below. Check it out!:

Contest Time
Go to the Contact page, select the Layers Blog drop-down, then fill in your name, email address and answer to the following question. Remember, the contest will end Thursday 5PM, and the winners will be announced Friday morning.

The Contest Question: Who was the author of the Writing Audio with Premiere Pro tutorial? What is my twitter name? What is the Layers magazine Twitter name?

The Prize: This time we’re going to pick 2 winners!! I’m giving away two of Reference 8″ 18% grey target discs. These things are great to keep in your camera bag for white balancing. You’ll also get a year subscription to Layers as well!

That’s it for today. We’ll see you guys back over here tomorrow!
