Basically, the filters designed to reduce noise (found under Filter&gt;Noise), use various methods to smooth and/or blur details on a pixel-by-pixel basis in order to get rid of some of the digital noise. Putting all this blurring and smoothing together tends to soften the edges, details, etc. of an image, giving the overall image a softer appearance.</description>
