The Ipod Touch/Iphone and the Instant Portfolio Session

I’ve been back from Photoshop World for a couple of weeks now and there is still one thing that is stuck in my head. So much so, that I see it rearing its head in a lot of other places- and I think it’s kinda cool.

It’s the instant portfolio session.

The Iphone has an amazing screen, and the capacity to show off pictures in a slideshow. At Photoshop World, I couldn’t turn around without hearing someone say, “Hey.. take a look at my most recent project … ”

I’m a big fan of self promotion. You never really know when someone is going to put you in a position where you need to shine. As an artist, you can’t constantly carry around a huge portfolio on the off chance that you will be seen and asked, “So.. you’re an artist/photographer/video person; what kind of stuff do you do?”

The Iphone (and now the Ipod Touch) are poised to change your way of interacting with people around you.

  • If you are a musician, you can create your tracks, have your artwork setup, and put all of it in your Iphone(touch) and look really polished.
  • If you are a video person, you don’t have to fumble with your business card - hoping that they will go to your video resume. You can fire up your best clips right then and there. Your potential client will then HAVE to go to your website.
  • If you are a artist/photographer, the Iphone’s slideshow will automatically make ALL of your best work available to you. Just pull out and flick.
  • The interface looks slick, and carrying it around with you will lend an amount of gravitas to your art form.
  • The most obvious bonus? It’s uber geeky. And there’s nothing wrong with that!

Now, don’t you just feel better about going to your local Apple store today?
