I wanted to leave you with a grim, bleak, distressing, yet absolutely hilarious video about the day in the life of a Visual Effects grunt. This video -should- be called “The Life of a Creative Person.” I’ll play it here, but we can discuss it, get a tutorial, and find out the weekly contest winner after the jump.

New Layers TV is Up, Again
Sorry guys, we really are working on the delivery of the show, and I do realize that its timeliness is important. Unfortunately, some things that are outside of our control have prevented this from happening. We are aware.. and we are working on it. Thanks to all of you who have emailed on it – it is appreciated.

It has also been brought to my attention that this week, we have the incomparable Bert Monroy with us on Layers TV. Corey spends some time talking with Bert about one section of his Damen painting. If you haven’t seen it – it’s just an amazing piece of work.. and even more amazing is to watch Bert do his thing. Bert’s even released a new book talking a little bit about Damen and other techniques to help make you a Photoshop Master. The book is called Photoshop Studio with Bert Monroy: Digital Painting and it’s full of really amazing stuff. You can even catch Bert over at his weekly podcast, Pixel Perfect, by the super brains over at Revision3

Why I Love This Video
Working in this industry, there are a couple of things that you come to expect:

You are probably doing freelancing at around 10:30 at night.. constantly
You are probably juggling clients to get the projects out
A sizable portion of your clients are probably like this
If you are not hosting clients, this is probably your office life

I love the humor here – it’s very “Office Space”-esque. Tell me what you think of this.. how many of you have had nights like this?

It’s interesting how this parallels my life as a graphic designer. Thanks for the movie (in my case, a documentary). You’ve just saved me hundreds of hours of marriage counseling.

Sorry, this doesn’t have anything to do with this post, but I didn’t know where else to put it. I remember a blog where you talked about a cheaper way to upgrade your mac than going directly through Apple. I searched through the archives but couldn’t find what I was looking for. If you could point me in the right direction I’d be extremely appreciative. Thanks.
